Instead of dropping the amsteel loop over the top of the leg, put the eyebolt leg through the loop so the loop can hang on the smooth spacer nut between the eye and top of the leg. Make two small loops at the bottom of the loop, give each a half turn and slide the the end of the ridgepole through to make a larks head. Wrap the hammock suspension a couple times around the ridgepole directly next to the ridgepole suspension. Adjust the hammock suspension and climb aboard. Note my 3" foam car camping pad underneath the first loading sit down trial

No pops, creaks or groans, even when shifting around in the hammock. The kink in the ridgepole is not due to loading - the connector in that end pole got glued in slightly crooked when re-installed (rats.) The three coats of Plasti-Dip on the ridgepole ends seems to be working to prevent slippage of the larks head and hammock straps. The filled and mitered legs with Plasti-dip are super steady.

Many thanks - to Agfadoc, Artjrk, gmcttr, Ultimate Hang, old dog, opie, Acer, etc. I hope this detailed writeup helps other fiberglass pole builders as much as yours have helped me.
Wow looks great. I wish I had the skills.

Well, the extra poles went to a local ham radio buff. I've got 4 extra Grainger snap buttons for securing pole sections that I'll drop in the post free to anyone building a pole stand.

    CLAIMED - Whew! People have >plans< !

Small Mod on your great idea

I had a piece of aluminum plate laying around. The poles don't come out of the plate the 550 clove hitch keeps them in. after I trim the plate some it will all fit back into the surplus bag it came in three down three up.

Order from Grainger online. If you've got a Grainger distribution center nearby, you can pick up there to save on shipping. Search term "snap buttons" to see the various sizes. I used part number 3DPZ8.

    Solus,
Love your plate design and this is the direction I want to go as we work to replace our woodleg/hinged turtledog stand with aluminum pole setups ( mainly because of the shorter breakdown length). Any more info you can provide would be great. Thickness of plate, any bending/denting of plate or poles yet, more on plate/pole interface, size of plate holes, etc. It looks like the plate holes are straight rather than angled and the poles being spread wedge the plate from sliding down as does the change in pole diameter at the end. I had planned on making a plate with three leg receivers welded to it but this looks as if the leg receivers would be unnecessary. Please share any more specs or lessons learned. Thanks!
