That is well thought out and engineered.

Here is how I ended up putting an eye-bolt on the surplus aluminum poles.

    20140914_190615.jpg20140920_054006 (1).jpg

Used Loctite Thread Locker 271 on the Rod Connector and all parts below it.

Un-threading the eye bolt allows the all thread rod to be inserted in the other end, and I leave 1/8-in below the lip to allow plenty of torque on the eye-bolt retaining nut. No slippage as yet, will add a lock washer in real time to the eye-bolt threads.

    12-in 5/16" All thread rod
    Hex rod connector 5/16"
    1 1/2" Flat washer w/5/16" bolt hole
    5/16" nuts

Home Depot scrounging at about $5.00 per pole.

I like it due to easy set up and take down, very secure and the three eye bolts allow easy support of the ridge line pole.

Here is my go at the stand. Works great in the back yard and hotel life.

I like the idea of these poles for portability and I am on the edge thinking to buy some once I figure out how to deal mentally with the shipping costs. I also like your comments about lashing. However, I have a couple questions I am hoping you can help with:
    1. Most posts talk about using amsteel loops to attach ridge pole due to weight bearing issues. What I don't get is why the lashing doesn't also need to be done with amsteel since the ridge pole suspension loop is hanging on the lashing. If the lashing breaks then we have a problem.
    2. Any suggestions on length of amsteel loop needed for flexibility. Many pictures in this series look like the ridge pole is way too high which suggests longer loops may be needed. I was thinking to get at least 15" loops.
    3. What is your suggested way to hang the ridge pool suspension loops at the top. Not really clear from pictures I have seen as to whether you need to only go around one pole or all 3 poles where they cross and how to ensure the loop hangs down from the center of the tripod.

I cut 17" length off the lower leg sections and use 18" loops. If you put the bottom end of one leg through the loop and carry it over the top end of that leg, you'll have the loop hanging directly on the lashing whipping instead of laying over the pole shoulder. With three sections on the top pole (132"), a simple larks head on the top pole gives a good hang height. When I add one of the 17" pieces to the top (149"), an extra wrap of the larks head raises the pole just enough to keep the same hang going. If hanging on lashing, it might be a good idea to wrap the whipping with a strip of leather or tough fabric first. I used the hardware solution instead of lashing, but same idea.

Nice. That allows all the poles to be separate for packing. Sometimes having the three poles bound together is inconvenient, sometimes not. Do you use a quick-link to connect the three eye bolts?

I keep going back and forth between bolting and cinching. Slick setup either way.

Finally getting around to making a set of these this weekend. Mine are drilled to pivot at the 43" mark per the first post instructions and use the stock aluminum tube lengths. Can any of the guys that are setup for this give me the measurement between the bottom feet as I would like to make some limiters and looking for a measurement that has been tested.

5' spacing is in the right neighborhood for 8' legs.

I realize I'm late to the game but am hoping someone can answer a question. I've got 16 poles on the way. I will be lashing the tripod instead of bolting since I like the idea of being able to adjust the legs for terrain. I have a WB traveler that I know this will work well with but I don't sleep overnight well in gathered ends. Great for naps & hangin out but my go to is a BMBH. Since the angle of hang is considerably shallower than in a gathered I'm concerned about being to close to the top bar in a bridge. Anyone hang a bridge, preferably a BMBH on this system? Comments?

With 8' legs and a 16' ridgepole, these stands work well with bridge hammocks.

As far as use on uneven ground, move a leg in or out rather than changing the lashing to compensate. If you move the lashing off of the "pin" onto the pole, you may (or may not) have slipping problems.
