    Video: Talking Hammock Tarps

This Video is geared more towards those unfamiliar with hammock tarps and those interested in the features on my DIY tarps ... doors and such.
I have had a couple of inquiries by e-mail about the tarps I use for my hammock so here we go ... let's take a look at them. These are home-made tarps ..... if you can sew a bit they are what I would call a level 2 or 3 project. I followed the directions from BlackBishops BlackCat Tarp site. It is on this site...
You can order all the supplies from Ed Speer at http://www.speerhammocks.com. He carries silnylon, polyester thread, spectra no-tangle cord and such.
So, you don't sew! Watch RamblinRevs Videos under Homemade Gear Discussion
The usual on this video ... some out takes at the end on the credits.
    Thanks for your time,
    Shug

Sweet vid Shug. Picked up a few things I might want to add to my DIY tarp.
I had wondered about adding tie-outs in the middle of a curve. How well do they work and how often do you use them? Were they planned or an afterthought? And did you reinforce them?

I use the tie outs every time! They were added after I made and used the tarp several times. They are reinforced with some grosgain. If I made another I would make them stronger but they have held really well in high winds and stuff so far.......

I thought that was a great use for those things. I picked up a couple at Harbor Freight one day, just because they looked so cool. Now I know what to do with them. Thanks Shug!

    Hh Hex Fly

This has me considering modifacations to my HH HEX fly. What da think.
Adding the tie outs to the bottom. Will I need to add the tie outs up on the wall of the shelter?

Entirely reasonable mod, IMHO. For any tarp, pulling out the sides as shug illustrates will appreciably increase the interior space. What you can do before puncturing your tarp wall though with needle and thread is to put grip clips on the spots where you think you want the tie-outs. You can move these around to find just where you'd want the wall tie-outs.

Or maybe just leave the grip clips in place (which is what I do). Four of the smallest ones weigh less than an ounce, together.
