My wife has her machine "tuned" every year. There is a guy who travels around, comes to the house, and he goes over the machine. What a difference it makes. Her machine is very sophisticated. She also brings her daughter's machine and her Mom's as well. He is pretty amazing to watch.
I think it might be worthwhile to find someone who does such things. While it costs more, the frustration and time saved might be well worth it. Just a thought.

We need at least two at our house just to make sure one is available. Our local repair shop gets kudos for a job well done and demerits for cost and for taking a couple months for even simple repairs. I don't mind the cost so much when I think about an hour of any technician's time (plumber, auto repair etc.). I hate to be without a machine, though.
Maybe this road block is a good thing! I was having way too much fun before it came to an end. I was feeling that same sense of sliding into the abyss I felt whenever I would explore some new interest!!!! I just spent the last 20 minutes looking at the "show your thread injector. I should not have done that. Looking at the old metal sewing machines I think I actually started to drool. Hey....don't laugh.......................I have been known to do this with vintage metal lathes, forge furnaces, anvils,.........and it just keeps going. OH NO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!Here I go again.

I had to adjust the needle timing once on my wife's singer, long before I ever thought I was going to use it myself. Found and downloaded a service manual for it and jumped in.

I finally was able to get some machine oil and do some cleaning. So far it is running smooth and a little quieter. Thanks for the help. I do think I will look for an old machine though.
