    I believe there was a good thread on setting some Boy Scouts setup with hammocks and the price was under $30. You might have to pick and choose carefully what supplies you use, but it can be done.

    I thought of making a "winter hammock" - no need for a bug net then, and since I have my Hennessy tarp and tree straps, all I really need is hammock and suspension. I ordered a singlenest from ENO and some suspension lines from arrowhead. I think I spent about $80 for the set, but I don't have to sew and my cost estimate using fabric from Joann was going to be around $70 for everything.
