    Differential baffles??

I am looking to make my own underquilt and have heard about differential baffles. Wondering 1) what that means and 2) is it a more efficient design when it comes to retaining heat?

It's not really the baffles that are differential, but the quilt as a whole. I think it would be necessary for a down underquilt due to the compression. Basically it is having the outer (lower) shell of the underquilt wider than the inner (upper) shell due to the fact that the radius is greater by the amount of your loft. Without this the layers are compressed together, reducing loft and warmth.

We had a discussion recently here https://www.hammockforums.net/forum/...t=differential

As I recall this was about a top quilt where it is not as critical. I think it would be necessary for a down underquilt due to the compression.
