    Lightbulb Whoopies on Eno

I haven't modified my ENO yet but can anyone tell me the benefits to taking out original straps and replacing with whoopie sling? I have a trip in two weeks. Was think about living originals for this trip and changing them wither during or after the trip. What u guys think?

Much lighter, I changed mine out the week I bought it. Also I dont know if you are using ENO tree straps or not, I used mine to hang the hammock in the backyard and they are not very adjustable, even the newer ones in my opinion. I use webbing with the marlin spike hitch. If you haven't watched Shugs how to series on youtube yet I would highly recommend it

Have a great time on your trip and welcome to the forums!!

Since you asked. Sure, leave original straps for your upcoming hike. Then switch out to whoopie slings. You will have gained experience with both and you will have saved weight.

Do use tree straps with your whoopie slings! Don't injure every set of trees you ever hang from. But I bet you know that.

I definitely changed out the straps on my wife's ENO, yes. Also cut off the attached stuff sack straps and ditched the heavy 'biners.

Ok, not a great photo but, here's my Eno Mods.

7/64 amsteel doubled looped inside of hammock and tied using double fisherman's knot. Depending on weight could triple the knot. I've added super nice "o" ring that I bought at REI. I've been using this and the whoopie/Marlin Toggle and Strap rig for about 3 years with no problems.

Speaking of replacing ENO slap or atlas straps and using webbing with Marlin spike.... I've heard that sometimes the whoopie sling can slip off the Marlin spike sending the hammock & person crashing to the ground. I think someone said its better to place the whoopie sling on the knot and NOT the spike. True?

The whoopie goes on the 'knot not the toggle.' The toggle simply holds the knot together. Whoopies slip off the MSH before being loaded, but in my experience never while loaded.

Watch Shug's youtube videos and all this should be cleared up.

Cool. Yes, I've seen the Shug vids. Funny yet informative dude. I'm still gonna stick with the ENO Atlas straps for now since I'm new to hammock camping. I want to experience for myself and then evolve based on my own experiences. Seems that's the way everyone here has come to their own conclusions too.

The Spring can't come soon enough here on the east coast. :-D

Not to put too fine a point on it: yes, I've come to my own conclusions. I've been using the Whoopie/Marlin Spike/Tree Strap setup for about 3 years with no problems. Enough said!

I have an ENO SN that still has the original rope on the end, but not the biners. When I bought my DN, I opened the package, and proceeded to remove the ropes, and replace them with whoopies......RR
