I'm not ancient but I ain't no young thing either. So I've seen coated nylon and used same as a "tarp" before, mainly repurposed tent flies and so forth. So getting back into things after a decade plus hiatus (much longer than that since I needed any new gear to speak of) I see cuben and wossname stuff and silynylon (Silly Nylon? I keep thinking, that can't be good) and good old fashioned coated nylon, all things you gotta know when it is tarp time to cover the new-fangled camping hammock. After researching this and that I go with the Mamajamba and it came in the mail today and HOLY EXCREMENT BATMAN THAT STUFF IS INCREDIBLE!!! Not to mention how incredible the tarp is itself, with pullouts and whatnot. Just saying. Incredibly light. Now we need a new word because while I camped under nylon all my adult life the word "tarp" still brings back memories of CANVAS, with that distinct odor it always had, not exactly musty (unless it got put away wet) but a smell that meant woods and campfires and falling into fast-moving streams and almost drowning--wait, wait, that last one is just a childhood thing. Yeah. Need a new word.
Anyway, here it is thrown up quickly as night was falling and I hadn't yet dinner'd myself. Of course I couldn't resist putting the BB under it just to see.
Oh, and whoever invented snakeskins is a freakin' genius. I wrassled many a time with tarps. . .yeesh. Snakeskins take all the wrasslin' out of it.
