    Mamajamba Question

I'm looking to get a hex tarp for my hammock. It's up between the Mamajamba and the Superfly. I REALLY like the idea of being able to close the doors up on the SF. However I am trying to cut down my weight and pack size. I've seen in one of Shug's vids that he closed up a smaller size tarp pretty nicely. Has anyone tried closing up an MJ in foul weather? And no, I do not want a Mama+Doors, might as well just own the SF then.

Thanks for your time and help,

    Re: Mamajamba Question

I've had both. You can't go wrong with the Superfly. Well worth the 5.5oz difference for the coverage you get.

I have a Mamjamba and wish I had gotten the superfly. The extra 5 oz I can live with. Get the superfly and be happy.
I got in a fight one time with a really big guy, and he said, "I'm going to mop the floor with your face." I said, "You'll be sorry." He said, "Oh, yeah? Why?" I said, "Well, you won't be able to get into the corners very well."

If you want doors then the Superfly is the way to go. I myself prefer not having doors since my favorite thing about hammocking is that I can look around. I miss my Mambajamba...
I like that the removable doors can be left home during the warmer months..

You could always get a Grizz-Beak or two later if you need doors like during extreme cold or just use a sock.

I added grosgrain tabs on the bottom edge of my tarp....about 20-24" in to create some doors.

    Re: Mamajamba Question

Too tight of squeeze for my BMBH. That's why I upgraded to superfly.

No right or wrong answer here.

Jumpmonkey - To expand on my thoughts, I think for summer if the weather is supposed to be mild, I'd like something even smaller, like the Edge or a Tadpole. I would then pair that with a SF for the other seasons. But if I could only have one, it would be the SF.

I was using the MJ in Novemeber, temps were ok, but where I camped at was windy. It was then I realized the benefit of the doors (which I didn't have at the time).

I have a scale and count ounces, but decided carrying the SF is worth it for me.
