Tie Outs

So I have noticed on a lot of the pictures I have seen that people have small tieouts on the sides of the hammock staked out to the ground. Just wanted some clarification on what the purpose of these are. I have never used any. I imagine it is so you can lay at an angle? Maybe? I always enjoyed the ability to rock, or sway a bit in my hammock and it seems this would prevent that.

From what it sounds like to me, they act like dampeners for the swinging motion.

Also it assists in getting into the hammock by keeping the hammock 'fuller'

My dd didn't have them, the swinging doesn't bother me, and I don't really need help getting in my hammock, so I don't use them

Both the WBBB and the HH has tie outs. Both use elastic and you can still swing a little. On the BB it is nice if you have the shelf off you so wind dooesn't hit you. it really does help keep the side of the hammock away from your face. You will be fine not using them though.

I see. I am kind of the same as you, though I can see the benefit for using it to get in and out easier, I hadn't thought of that use.

The tie-outs help keep the bug netting off your face. If I had an open hammock, I don't think I'd use any kind of side tie-out.

I have had an older hammock for years now from the era when Henessey were just coming out with the full setup (Hammock,FLY,Bugnet) combos. It is just a plain jane open hammock and that is probably why I am so unfamiliar with the different setups. I think I would enjoy the tieouts as long as they were elastic. Thanks for the clarification guys
