This would be a quick check gear list that I threw together a while back. After a couple thousand miles in the backcountry it seems to be what works & all that's needed. Well that & experince.

Should be everything you need to get out the door. Combine it with Shug's videos & a copy of the ultimate hang & you should be good.
Perhaps in the mad scramble for sexy light weightness I and everyone else has forgotten the most important function of gear – not that it must weight nothing, look good and be cheap, but that it must keep you alive and increases your survivability.

Yeah definitely get The Ultimate Hang, but check out the website as well, there is loads of info and further reading on there. Plus this place
As has already been said, you need everything you normally take camping, but sub tenty stuff for hammocky stuff.
Hammock = ground sheet
Tarp = tent fly
Topquilt = sleeping bag
Underquilt = pad
Just ordered a copy of the ultimate hang. This place is a great resource - thanks folks!
Another +1 on The Ultimate Hang. Amazing book for beginners and for those that have been doing it some. Other choices for sure, but that ones the best (especially for new folks).

I'm heading out this weekend for my first overnight hang. The Ultimate Hang is how I got my start in planning and tweaked it here on the HF. Good luck with your first hang, and pray I don't forget anything either!
Thumbs up for The Ultimate Hang
I am new to it as well and I'm going to second Gunner76's suggestion to watch Shug's Youtube videos: Hammock How-To For Noobs. It really helped me a lot.
Also, ask questions (like you are doing) and people will answer. It is an awesome group!
