Cheap hammock I can use to let the wife try out the Blackbird?

I have a pretty hammock nice setup for myself when I go hiking with my buddies. When I bring the wife, we sleep in a tent. We usually don't cover that many miles, so the load is okay, however a hammock is just better in the summer. I'd love to put my wife in my Blackbird and camp out in a cheapy once this summer. I don't want one with a bug net because if she doesn't like sleeping in a hammock, we'll use it for a camp chair. Price is my primary concern, so the Doublenest is out. I'd like something about as durable and see a lot of them for $20-$30 from Grand Trunk, Texsport, etc. but don't know how any of them are in person. Weight is not a huge concern.

What would be a nice cheap but durable hammock to use for a couple nights this summer?

Note: if the $20 hammocks are not worth going for, I'd start looking for an inexpensive combo (hammock and fly) purchased either together or separate that I could just buy for the wife right from the start.
I coated my Blackbird with Permethrin last year and never heard a mosquito. Is it possible to get a hammock with no mesh and use Permethrin as a force field?

Unfortunately...permethrin isn't a forcefield but a contact insecticide. In order to work the bugs need to come in contact with it so your totally uncovered top will get eaten without some sort of netting.

I definitely feel your pain with regards to cost, especially if the wife decides it's not for her. In the long run though I think you'd be better off buying/borrowing a good rig for the amount you're going to use it. If in fact your wife decides it's not for her at least you gave it a shot. As you've seen....good gear on here devalues little more than the price you're looking at spending on "cheap" gear.

If you ask nicely....some folks on here might even loan you a setup for a few nights if you pay the shipping.....;-)

A DIY tablecloth hammock is all you need.

You may as well buy another BB because once she's in it you'll never get it back!

the GTUL was my first hammock and still in use today as my backup. Can't go wrong with it in my opinion and it's so l ight you can throw it in your pack on day hikes.

+1 I just made a tablecloth hammock for cheap. Tablecloth-$11.99 Amsteel it whoopies-$6. I triple stitched a hem in each end and larks headed the locked brummel through it. I find it more comfortable than my doublenest...probably due to the extra length. I don't think you'll find a cheaper more comfortable option.

I have two Texsport Hobo Hammock 2's. Paid about $15 each. Same width/length as the ENO SN, but more comfortable (wider) because it's one-piece, and doesn't have the flimsy sewn-on "wings" like the ENO. Heavier than the SN, and the suspension that comes with it is worthless, including the rope used to gather the ends. Very durable, and has an attached stuff sack.
