    USGI Patrol bag

Does anyone use the USGI bivi or patrol bag with your hammocks?

My brother currently used that on his month long Op4 training op he did in SC. Said it was getting down to low 20's at points throughout the night and he used his black bag and bivy with a PLUQ he rigged on site. Said he was warm and toasty. Bivy really helps trapping your warmth keeping the wind off of you. Probably still need a ccf or pluq to alleviate all the cbs.

I've used one many tiimes getting down to 10 C with a thermarest sleeping pad.
I continue to use it when car camping, but it can be cumbersome if you're hiking miles.

I used one recently as an UQ protector and to see if it would bump my rating. Got down to ~16*F with snow. It might have help, but for all the wrong reasons... was worried about sweating. This was my setup: DIY IX UQ > JCP Puffer UQ > Bivi. Of course it could have just as easily been all the insulation! I did not feel it was worth the weight to be honest. Great if forced to the ground...

I used the green patrol bag last fall in Shenandoah National Park in my hammock. I used a 20F underquilt by Hammock Gear for bottom insulation. This was in a Hennessy Explorer hammock. I got a little cold on top but it was mostly due to the wind. So I'm adding a wind sock this year and I think that setup (Green patrol bag for top, 20F Hammock Gear UQ for bottom, and a wind sock) with be fine, maybe down to freezing. The wind has a huge effect on my comfort.

I think the Bivy will surely provide splash protection whether it be inside the hammock or out. Also with a CCF or sleep pad on top of it will provide some sort of insulation. IMO

I will be trying it out on my next trip or any that follows. It will be used as a splash guard if anything. Doesn't weigh much to pack along.

Seems a bivy would make an excellent vapor barrier in sub freezing temps.
The MSS was my favorite piece of gear until I bought a hammock and tarp.
