Way cool story. Sorry for your loss!
I second the invitation to come & visit us at one of our "Hangouts", I think the next one is in the spring in Hot Springs NC. And PLEASE bring your "Old" hammock, it truely is a treasure & I for one would love to see it.

And of course: WELCOME ABOARD, we have been waiting for you.

Wow what an introduction! Welcome to the HF! I grew up camping in 1950s GA Blakely, Bainbridge, Columbus, Warner Robbins and Rome. But it was all on the ground, had not ever heard of hammock camping until a little over 2 years ago. Snakes were always a worry in my youth.

Normally as a new guy, I'd welcome you to the Hanging Gang.... Guess you are the one to welcome all us youngsters.... Hope you can get to one of our hang outs and tell us about the good ol days.... Welcome to the forum.

PS... I used an M1965 Jungle Hammock on a Springer Start in 2003... A string broke and it dropped me in the snow at Low Gap.... It got traded out in Hot Springs a few days later.

That's the best first post I've ever read on any forum. You sound like a great addition to the community. Welcome!

Thanks for making me feel so welcome. I actually went to the basement this
afternoon and dug through some of the old gear. I have three sons, 32 28, 23, all
made Eagle Scout, (very proud), so lots of gear often gots legs and walked, but
it went to a great cause!

I turned them into hangers, but they all became grounders, when they started dating and camping at the same time.

You guys are so much more advanced than I ever got, but I find some stuff I would like
    like to talked about.

    Warm Regards

That was a really nice read. I especially liked the part about the JC Higgins 410 and only being allowed to go as far as the shots could be heard. I too, had a single shot 410 at an early age and remember vividly how empowered I felt. I had visions of living of the land...eating rabbits and squirrels for the rest of my life. Thanks for the memories and a warm welcome to the group.

We have so much to learn from you. I can picture all of us, if we were limber enough, sitting crossed legged in our hammocks, listening to these stories. Thank you!
