    Packing the Straps (and ridgeline)

Here is a good question many have found different solutions to. How and where do you pack your tree straps and tarp ridgeline(s)? Mine are in a small re-purposed stuff sack and packed on the outside of my pack so I can get to them and get them up in the rain or snow without exposing the contents of my pack to the weather. If incliment weather is assured, I make the tarp easily accessable as well.
I am a fragile thing and like to set up my rig under a tarp and out of the weather.

    Mutley,

I like your idea of, "packed on the outside of my pack".

I like these: Sap Sack, from http://www.arrowhead-equipment.com/accessories.html

If they are dry, they they go inside my ridgeline organizer pocket, along with the hammock in the next pocket, and the whoopies in another. The whole lot then gets tucked into another ridgeline pocket.Mine has 6 pockets and I don't know how I coped without it.

If wet, they get disconnected and put in the mesh on the outside of my pack to dry.

Despite many hundreds of nights hung from conifers, I've yet to notice sap on my straps being a problem that needs solving.

This is cool, and reusable. Zip lock bags end up getting trashed (they are not as durable) and end up in the landfill. The color is spot-on, too.
Where do you keep your ridgeline?

I grew-up in SW Georgia. If you didn't figure out a way to do something in the rain, you rarely got to do it at all.

My tarps have their own suspensions. Always attached.
For me, a tarp and it's suspension is stored in a mesh bag (think laundry delicates mesh bag - but any mesh bag will do).

Strapped to outside of pack if wet; otherwise inside pack.

I would like pictures of that.

And may the sap stay off you! I'm envious.

I did learn recently, if you do get sap on anything (especially yourself) alcohol based hand-gel does a respectable job of cutting through it. Cleans sap, sanitizes hands, descent fire-starter. Who knew?

Made myself the Tootsie-Roll stuff sack. Holds the suspension at each end and keeps it separated from the hammock. Just loosen one of the draw strings and webbing are ready to throw around a tree and then just drag to other tree and repeat. Acts like a bishop bag.

    Here you go Muttly

    Bad picture of a Ridgeline organiser;

Lots of others like it and its my first one after hundreds of night without one.

1.0 oz white ripstop parachute nylon, stitched at homes-its the big white pockety thing on the right of my hammock. I can empty my pack into completely with a normal load out (pictured isn't normal at all).
It usually hangs straight, but theres nearly 20 kg hanging off the ridgeline.

My hammock suspension is rolled up separately from each other. Each strap is wound separately and stuffed in the back mesh panel of my pack making them easy to get to.

My tarp ridgeline and guylines remain attached and have little pouches glued to the bottom inside edge of the tarp to prevent tangling. Roll up the lines and slide into the pouches. Tarp is then stored in the mesh back panel as well (along with rain gear).
