    Traveler Sock "Breathing" trouble

How about putting your shoes in the bottom of the sock? (Bag them if they're dirty/wet). The weight should keep the sides of the sock somewhat taunt and resist wind gusts while keeping the material off your face. That would also keep the bottom of the sock from touching the underquilt. And lastly, your shoes will be handy.

Then you will compress the sides of the UQ causing shoulder and feet to be cold. I had the same thought but it did not work

I have used my Warbonnet sock one time in a heavy cold wind. I had my hammock and tarp set up so the wind was hitting the tarp on the side and not coming in the open end. I stayed very confortable

I have made and use such a thing. (you can check out my pics and posts on Modular Hammock Sock for more info) I love it for all it's versatility, but the fact that there are two parts means that there are edges for the wind to slip through - particularly on the ends. Personally, I like having fresh air moving over my face, so this is not a problem for me. Even still, I am careful to hang where the terrain provides some shelter from the wind when it's cold. On the flip-side, whne it's warm out, I can raise the sides of the top to catch breezes and still be protected top and bottom.
