Paracord

Paracord, its good cheap cordage but:
1) It stretches
2) It soaks up water

I'd never use it for ridges or tie-outs because of its stretch. Have in the past, regretted it every time.
I'll still carry some for random stuff, it's handy. But I've switched all ridge-line and tie out to other, lighter, smaller, less absorbent, lower stretch and stronger cordage.

Paracord is great, you'll be happier when you know where it fits and where it doesn't.

I love paracord for a lot of things...but it doesn't belong anywhere on my hammock.

I use decorative knots and stuff as small tokens of appreciation/friendship...

I see a handful of turks head slides for my scouts in my future - just made my first one last week.

Paracord is great to have on hand, but the knot application is key, because it can be difficult to undue. Tell me about it when scouts tie everything they can see with it.

Using as a ridgeline is great - I use it on two of my hammocks simple due to the fact that I have no bug screen sewn to them, so a little stretch isnt going to kill me, or rip my bug screen. Second, it is a great source of 56 feet of cordage in an emergency.

I keep hearing about paracord and I have some. Outside of survival bracelets I don't see why I would carry it. Something like 1/8 in solid braid dacron sash cord is a lot better stuff. Minimal shrinkage, adequate strength, knots well and is low in cost. Also about the same diameter as the braided plastic strips I made my neckerchief slide with. ;-)
