I'm looking for suggestions todo a beach hang in the Tybee island area with the wife.
I've paddled camped on Little Tybee (the undeveloped bigger island) next to Tybee....kinda scrubbie but you can find a place to hang there. Never thought about actually hanging on Tybee since it's more city/community if I'm not mistaken.
well it doesn't have to be on tybee but we are looking for a place on the beach ,we thought about little tybee and plan on looking into that ,we are willinging to go to any beach like area all suggestions welcomed
How about Hunting Island State Park in SC? It's more north...above Hilton Head...actually near Beaufort, SC. There's plenty of trees there...pictures of most all the campsites at www.campsitephotos.com. I stayed at an ocean front "t*nt" site last fall and really enjoyed the trip.
Do you have anymore info Paulie
First I'd check all the info/pages (especially the "camping" page) on this site: http://www.southcarolinaparks.com/hu...roduction.aspx
If you click on the "Park Reservations" graphic on the right under the map, it'll allow you check site availability for the dates you're interested in, reserve sites, see campground map w/ site details, etc. I believe I had site 38 which is an oceanfront site for tents or hammocks only...it only has water, no electricity. There is a couple hammock setup options available on site 38 (in other words, more than one place to hang a hammock)...other sites have multiple options...some sites have none, though there is a surprising number of trees in this campground for it being a beach, etc.
One way I help determine which sites are suitable for hanging is to use the pictures on this website: http://www.campsitephotos.com/campgr...and-State-Park
There are pictures of most of the sites...though some of the oceanfront hammock/tent sites are not included...including site 38 that I stayed at last fall.
Hope this helps! I can't wait for an opportunity to go hang at Hunting Island again...I greatly enjoyed my hang time there!
thanks this location is looking promising
You're welcome! Hope it works out for you all. I actually had booked another site, but when I got to Hunting Island, site 38 was available. I decided I liked it better than the site I reserved, so I switched to 38...though it only had a couple options to hang from. Just so you know in advance, Hunting Island is one of the more popular SC state parks and sites can be hard to come by.
Just for info, Little Tybee had a forest fire last fall that did some damage to trees and undergrowth. Had to let it burn since there was no way to get equipment to it. Hunting Island State Park is great. Our Scout troop did a weekend last September. Got to watch some baby sea turtles hatch and head for the ocean.
