As for the 54" 0.33 ounce Cuben Fiber I will have to give Quest a call on Monday and check on that.
I just got off the phone with Quest. They have a few yards of the 54" - 0.33 ounce per sq yard Cuben but will be getting a new shipment in a week or 2 or 3. Cuben Fiber has sent them an invoice and said it is being processed for shipment.
I will get enough to make a new tarp that will be about 10 foot long and about 9 foot wide.
I may be able to do some hiking toward the end of April so I am finishing up all my gear projects. I had never gotten around to making a set of tree huggers for my Cuben Hammock. I have some very heavy Cuben Fiber that is 5.88 ounces per sq yard and very strong. I decide to see if it would work for tree huggers. I cut a piece 3 inches wide and about 10 feet long. I doubled and sewed the material making it 1.5 inches wide. Then sewed loops on each end. I cut the tree huggers for a finished length of 84 inches. I think this is longer than they need to be but may leave then as is.
I have been in and out of my Hammock several times and the Cuben Tree Huggers seems to be working OK.
The weight of one of the tree huggers is 1.35 ounces.
I am getting ready to make a new Cuben Tarp. I was able to get some of the lightest Cuben at 54" wide from Quest and will use it.
The Blue Cuben I got at 0.33 or so ounces a sq yard is really 0.38 ounces per sq yard. I used some of it for my second all Cuben Sleeping Bag. It has almost 14 ounces of 6 ounce per sq yard XP and less than 2 ounces of Blue Cuben. Total weight under 16 ounces. It is very warm
When their was a lot of talk about "Amsteel Blue" cord I called the company and asked about it. They didn't have any in Blue but did have 1/8" in Light Gray. I bought a bunch.
When I weighed a one foot piece it came out to about 2.5 ounces per foot. I cut two 12 foot pieces and attached it to my Cuben Hammock. I then tied the Hammock to tress in my back yard and got in. It seems to be working just fine. The Hammock is hanging as I type this but the Mosquitoes were getting bad and I came in to put on some long pants and a long sleeve shirt.
The new total weight of my Cuben Fiber Hammock - Hanging - is 5.51 ounces.

Indeed.
Samson lists Amsteel at -
- 7/64 as .3lbs per 100ft or .45kg per 100m
- 1/8 as .5lbs per 100ft or .74kg per 100m
So -
- 7/64 = .048 ounces/ft or 1.36 grams/ft
- 1/8 = .080 ounces/ft or 2.27 grams/ft

I would like to see maccats made in cuben! first we were awed by spinn, now its time to step into the insanely light department and get brian to make in cuben! =) I would also like to make a packcover in cuben that doubles as the water bag for my gravity filer, food back for storing the food up a tree, and wash basin as well. I think it would be one of the best multiuse items around. And probably my next project.
