Is it really necessary to store the OCF pad uncompressed?
I'd rather leave it in the stuff sack with the hammock, after making sure all is dry.

That's what I do. Hammock, pad, kidney/torso pads, heatsheet, UC- all in one stuff sack. That way when I set up, I just attach to one tree, walk to the next and attach, and that's it- ready for bed. ( sometimes my quilt is in there also) But, it's a pretty big sack and I don't store it very compressed, not like when it goes in the pack.
Or sometimes I just roll it ( the OCF pad) up slightly tight, like a bed roll, and store it that way. I suspect that those pads are stored highly compressed in the little stuff sack for a long time before they are shipped to the buyer. But who knows?

I assume you are talking about long-term home storage, not on-the-trail.
At home, I store mine loosely rolled up and tied loosely with a shock cord, standing in a corner. This has worked well and has been a good compromise between storing it uncompressed and taking up a reasonable amount of space in my store room.
I used to store it unrolled behind a bed, but it kept getting in the way.
On the trail I store it mostly compressed in an 8L Sea-to-summit dry bag.

it probably depends on how tight. i just bought some ocf weather stripping for my doors at home. it comes on a small roll. it's 1/4" thick. i noticed the part that is near the end (the first several inches to get put on the roll) is very compressed, probably because they rolled it too tight. anyway, i used some and left the roll loose so it could loft up in case i needed more. i just looked at it and the compressed section has not bounced back much at all in a few days time, so it probably is possible to flatten your ocf if you leave it too compressed for too long.
I notice that, when I bought it, my SS OCF pad had been seriously compressed inside the Hennessy stuff sack. I would imagine it spent a long time in there, and would therefore conclude that it won't kill it to be stored compressed.
