    Idea I'm bouncing around

I've been toying around with the idea of a partial sock for my hammocks. Not a full length sock, but just enough to cover each end and provide a little extra wet weather protection under my diamond tarp.

Maybe a 2 to 3 foot section at the foot and head made from a lightweight nylon ripstop of some type ( I was looking at the coated ACU seconds DIY Gear has for it, but 1.1 with DWR might be fine ). They would just extend a short ways over the suspension, and then down and ride a short way down the ridgeline.

I had also considered making the foot end double as a snakeskin as well so everything would pack down into it for quick deployment.

Anybody ever do something like this before? I couldn't find any recent references to anything like it, but I may just be blind

I've done something similar on real rainy nights which kind of led to the idea of a more permanent solution. I was bothered by the idea I could be out during the day wearing my poncho while back at basecamp my hammock was getting wet.

    I'm probably overthinking the problem

    With the HH Tarp

With the original HH tarp, I found that in major storms, I was lucky to stay dry. So, I made 2 1/2 feet ends. It was enough to cover me & keep rain out of my hammock.

Have a look at slowhike's gallery, starting around here.

He has used something like that for quite a few years, and has integrated storage into it.

That's exactly what I was thinking about. Did you just make them triangular in shape?

Awesome ... that is even beyond what I was thinking. I love the storage 'rack'.

Wow! That's outstanding. I just had an umbrella break on me the other day. I cut it off of the wire and it will make a great end piece with a little alteration.

    Idea I'm bouncing around

That's a cool idea. I did something like it but it was a fail. I put my whoopie through the head hole of a heavy duty poncho and made a half sock pointed into the wind and rain. It works but flaps like crazy. I really want a sock. Who makes a good one?
