    Video: Amsteel Continuous Loop

I'm a little bloke at just about 140lbs, so I'm thinking that 4" as in your video would be enough for me. But I'm curious as to wether there are some groundrules for bury length vs. weight capacity for continuous loops or whoopie slings?

    - Cheers
Well I've always used 4" as a minimum for my buries. I'm about 160lbs and that has never failed for me. I've made a hammock for a friend who is about 195-200lbs and made the continuous loops exactly the same and they've held just fine for him too. On whoopie slings I use a 4" burry at the fixed loop end, and 10" for the main bury. I dont know if there are specs from Samson rope on bury vs weight capacity, this is just what I've found from experience. If you were a bigger guy you could make them longer just in case, but what I use should be just fine for you.

So what holds a Loop together? I'm assuming the "Chinese Handcuffs" effect of outer stands tightening over inner stands and friction?

    Any information on failure force?

No doubt discussed somewhere here in the past in grave detail...

Not that a 4" bury won't work but here's what is recommended...
This is from another thread on the subject of bury length.

Here's some documentation from this link http://www.animatedknots.com/longbury/

(•Length of bury: Both Brion Toss and McCarthy and Starzinger recommend that the length of the buried tail should be 72 times the rope's diameter. This is about three and a half full fid lengths (a full length fid is 21 times the rope's diameter.) The very slippery Spectra and Dyneema require this long bury. However, for Polyester, about half this length is sufficient.)

Instructions from Sampson's Rope says the same thing.
So - that means that the smallest loop that could be created using this guideline would be about 15" diameter.

Correct and properly done, the breaking strength is as high as the breaking strength of a single rope or higher depending on how it is used.

Thank you TheBrewGuy for these 2 videos. They were my starting point and potential video posters would do well to watch them to see an example of how it should be done because they are:

    Awesome video(s) TheBrewGuy, thanks!

One week after having set the tape template and cut two lengths to make continuous loops, I could finally manage to find some time today to work on the actual thing.

It was my first time splicing, and it feels so nice! I found it a bit tricky to get the fish tool out right where the bury should start, but with some patience it works out. Eventually I got the hang of it, and the second CL took me 15 min to splice.

Next steps are the two whoopie slings and a ridgeline, which will most likely follow your other videos' instructions, I can't wait to start working on them!
