    Sleeping bag size for TQ?

I know a quilt is the way to go, but with family camping in the summer & the cheap options for SB's (my main reasoning) , I'm going that route for now.. Maybe turning it into a fit quilt later.

My real question is, does size & length really matter? As a "portly" guy, mummy bags aren't the greatest fit on my torso, but would that really matter if it's unzipped & opened up? Also, ar 6'3", I would normally need a tall SB. But if I'm not using the hood, do I really need a tall? Regular sized SB's are still usually 75" or so, so my shoulders would be fine.

Just trying to see if any other big hangers had any advice. Thanks!

As long as you have a pad or under quilt, your sleeping bag just needs to be big enough to cover down your sides and long enough to cover your feet. I use a sleeping bag and its nice not having to fully zip it up, but when its really cold out I still zip it up and use the hood.

I used a mummy that was too small for me... after some cutting and sewing, it fits me just fine...

Heck, try it out: you don't need to modify it to see if it covers you well enough. Just be careful that the zipper doesn't rip your hammock...

I have uses a mummy bag and a rectangular sleeping bag. I leave enough of the bottom end zipped to act as a foot box.

When it was cold enough to use the mummy bag the hood part was nice due to the insulation around the head.

Thank, that's what I was looking for! I just got my UQ today, and I won't have the funds for a. Nice TQ for awhile. I'll probably just pick up an inexpensive SB for now, with aspirations to learn to sew it into a TQ haha
