I've found that tapering the ends of the amsteel makes the biggest difference of anything that I do or use.

I tapered the ends, and used the g string folded in half and voila. Now I am splicing and no frayed amsteel. Thanks a bunch. Time to make some continuous loops and an adjustable ridgeline. I am really glad this forum is around, and that like minded people are ready to share their knowledge.

What tools to use for splicing amsteel?

I've tried guitar string, loop turner, ball point pen tip and floral wire. My biggest problem was getting a good grip to pull when line was stuck. I have ended up with the following adaption.

It consists of a 2 inch section of a 1" dowel with 18 guage floral wire. The wire is folded in half with the two ends going thru the dowel and doubling back into the wood. This gives me a comfortable handle to pull with.

Galvanized bailing wire works for me... I always have some around the house, like $5 for several hundred foot roll of it... Works well for lots of things...
Live, Laugh, Love, if that doesn't work. Load, Aim and Fire, repeat as necessary...
