    Hammock Chair

I bought a walmart hammock for $25, cut it in half, had a channel sewed in both of the cut ends, then added whoopie slings, tree straps and carabiners to make 2 hammock chairs.

A friend and I went for a bushwhack snowshoe in a local county forest today. When we stopped for lunch we gave the chairs a try. Very comfortable.

When we got back to the cabin she had to leave to get to a late afternoon meeting. I decided to take a nap by hanging the chair from the rafters.

Very cool... I'm going to have to give this a try... Seems like some cheap rip stop would work great for this... Do you use tree straps? Any pictures of that end?

    Hammock Chair

I made a couple of these per SteelerNation's plans and love them, especially for day hikes with my wife.

This pic shows the high end of my friend's chair and the low end of my chair with the tree straps and biners.

I used 3 foot straps but it was hard to find smaller trees, so I may have to go up to 4 or 5 footers, which means the straps will end up being most of the weight of the chairs. Maybe I can go down to 1/2 inch straps instead of 1 inch.

That's funny, my 4' tree huggers take up more space then my hammock chair and slings as well. Oh,well, still comfortable though...

I make the tree strap/suspension lines removable so that I can bring one set of suspension to use for the chair during the day at rest stops, then switch the suspension to my hammock at night.

My wife and I try to set up our chairs among 3 trees such that we are facing one another, more or less. The only problem is that it makes rest stops last a long, long time!
