Static electricity on my 1.1 ripstop

Has anyone had any issues with an abundance of static electricity on their 1.1 ripstop fabric. I am making a couple DIY hammocks and noticed that the fabric was popping like popcorn when I was separating it to be cut and sewed. Wondering if I can just spray it with static guard and be done with it? Not sure if something I did or if its just the nature of the fabric. Thanks in advance for any help or suggestions.

I've had static on hammocks before and I just spray it with Static Guard.

I have not had this on my hammock body but with my quilts I get a ton of static. I have noticed this with one of my two down jackets as well. I haven't ever thought about why it happens with some of my nylon products but not all of my nylon. If I had to guess I think it has to do with the interaction between the nylon and some other material that it is in contact with. The static charge comes from one material stripping electrons from the atoms of another material. When the electrons "jump" back you hear or see a shock.

We use Downy Fabric Softener in a spray bottle in our trade shows on carpet, display drapes, tafetta table skirts in our areas where computer registration is being done. Works like a charm and doesn't hurt anything at all. Just a very light spray from a spray bottle filled with it.

I felt like I was back in high school science again. and your right, my jeans and t shirt seemed to be less static-y than my suit pants from yesterday.

I going to try this, smells better than static guard.

For some reason a few weeks back, my HH was a magnet to grass clipping. The more I shook them off, the more they flew back on to it. I finally gave up and wrapped it up. The next day, they flew off. Go figure. I would hate to have my hammock full of Static Electric in one of those fun thunder storms on the AT.

Its winter and that has an effect on the static. I notice it more indoors than out.
Dryer sheets can also be helpful along with the other suggestions. Toss one in the hammock prior to packing it away. Mosquitoes also dislike the dryer sheet, so it serves dual purpose.
Its just something folks have to deal with when the furnace is running full tilt. Adding more moisture to the air can help too.

Or run a grounding wire to the floor..

I get really bad static with my GTUL but not with any of my other hammocks.
