Straight out of Clayton.
Most physical hike: Grandfather Mountain, NC. Aug 13.
I don't need to make my pack lighter. I need to make my (_*_) lighter.
I hope to make this hang again this year, but will not know until the week before. Wifey and I will not be back from a cruise until October 20th and I have no idea how much work will pile up over 10 days
I am itching. I wish I had my own car maybe I would go on more trips, but with the scouts and my 2 Uwharrie trips that is about as much as my wife can take being home without her car.
In as long as I can get the time off. I'll have to put in for it week after next. Will be in Salemburg all next week. I'll be coming off a trip to Upper Wilson Creek the weekend before, sweet. Two hangers in a row. Here's hoping.
Does anyone know how the government shutdown is affecting the UNF campgrounds? I have been told everything is currently closed.
Probably any you have to pay for and is staffed

Anybody live close that wants to go check it out?
Here's what I read (I bolded the part I think applies to us?):
Most National Forest Facilities Closed
Date(s): Oct 1, 2013
Most facilities in the national forests in North Carolina are closed due to a lapse in federal government funding. Only the following campgrounds, operated by concessionaires, are open: Pisgah National Forest: Black Mountain; Briar Bottom Group Camp; Carolina Hemlocks; Cove Creek; Davidson River; Kimsey Creek Group: Kuykendall Group; Lake Powhatan Recreation Area; North Mills River Recreation Area; Sunburst Recreation Area; and White Pines Group. Nantahala National Forest: Cliffside Day Use Area; Van Hook Glade; and Standing Indian/Kimsey Creek/Hurricane Creek. Visitors may still use undeveloped recreational areas. No restrooms or trash collection are available. Only essential Forest Service employees will continue working.
