Well it is a natiomal forest and the road will probably be open. So we can most likely park there and hike in just a bit to setup camp. There are fire rings all throughout the forest already nearby.

I'd also be willing to share campsite fees at a private campground someone recommends- if that becomes the option of choice.

I agree with Loki, there will be no shortage of forest that we can camp in. Years ago we would primitive camp along the uwharrie river near the main entrance on hwy 109.
I'm still hoping this resolves itself soon so my daughter can get back to work.

    NC>Uwharrie Yates Place>Nov. 1-3

I mentioned deep water horse camp earlier on the subject of canoeing. It is totally primitive. Not even trash cans, but boy it's a great place to wake up!

I would be open to making it work at Uwharrie and I am aware its a National forest but we would need to make sure we have the all clear. If they did something would it be to just shut down the campsites? For example Yates Place because it has garbage and vault? Maybe we just need a site that doesn't have those?
NCfree sorry to hear about your daughter being one of those out of work. I know this is not a political site but I just wish with the technology/media/social media/tv/internet/cspan and everything else we could force these people out in the open and make a decision. No more he said she said stuff. Don't they know I look forward to these hangs... where are the priorities????? Get NCfree's daughter back to work and leave Yates place alone.

There's also Hanging Rock - looks like $10/night for group sites.

Well I got the dates off from work, now just got to work on the kitchen pass from SWMBO.

As I understand it, and I could be totally wrong, the unstaffed, primitive camping facilities will remain throughout the government shut down. No services are being offered though, including trash collection, trail maintenance, privy maintenance, etc.

Of course on the off chance that for some reason the forest does get shut down, I'm all for relocating to State operated facility if need be.
