    Your opinion on this pad?

Has anyone tried this pad? I know it would be bulky to pack at 3 lbs. Just thinking about a pad to use when a buddy or someone else comes along . I have 3 hammocks but only 1 underquilt.

2 concerns. 1 is the R-value, it's not listed. For the same price you can get a Z-lite with 2.5 R value. For the 60.00 1.5 to 2 lbs range you can get a Big Agnes Insulated Air-core with an R-value of 4.5. Probably your best bang for buck without breaking your back. Only look at air-pads if they have an R-rating posted. Big Ags Air Core (not insulated air core) which is similar in price has a .5 R rating and look almost identical.

The 30" wide is a very nice feature but the 3lb's trumps that. It's made for car camping. Personally, I prefer CCF over air mats in a hammock. Air mats on the ground is wonderful. Closed Cell pads from Gossamer Gear, Jacks-R-Better, Mountainfitter are worth using. Even the blue REI wide torso length CCF is pretty nice. It just weighs a tiny bit more than an equal size one from GG or Jacks.

OK, 3lbs, but let's talk about what's good. Price is real good. Should be a great ground mat if you're car camping, always good to have multiple use. Wide-wide and that's good in a hammock, but there's no way you're getting this on a diagonal. That's ok, the pad will mediate the banana shape - not exactly flat, but not bad. I like that its 74" and not 78" like most wide pads. I tried a 25"x78" downmat in mine and slept ok, and stayed in on a straight line, just didn't need the extra length and it seemed to stick out.

Bad is that I highly doubt the insulation keeps you all that warm. Maybe because its 3lbs its stocked with insulation - if its warm, then its incredibly bulky. I doubt this pad would keep you warmer than a 1/2" closed cell pad at a third the weight.

Redeeming value is for car camping ground use where you get the needed cushion of the air pad.

Yeah I know the 3 lbs is to much for back packing I have a CCF pad also .... I was thinking car camping with hammocks and I also tent camp some and with a bivy... the 30" is a plus I guess I'm looking at it as a multi-purpose item.
