    Hello from Southeastern PA

Last season I converted from tents to hammocks and have never regretted it. I have really enjoyed the wealth of knowledge and experience this forum has provided a "newbie" like myself. I'm looking forward to hanging with some of my "neighbors" here in PA.
I'm planning a hike in April on the BFT. Does anyone know if there is a bridge across Slate Run at the start of the trail, or will I potentially have to take the High Water route north of the trailhead? I have Chuck Dillon's trail guide from 2008 which indicated they were considering building another one since a previous storm wiped out the old bridge. Any info would be appreciated.

I found this piece recently about the bridge you asked about......

Construction to begin on Black Forest Trail suspension bridge
DCNR is moving to replace a missing vital link in a very popular state forest trail that annually draws thousands of hikers to the Lycoming County area of the PA Wilds.

Construction is scheduled to start this summer on a 300-foot suspension bridge spanning Slate Run off of Route 414, near the village of Slate Run in the Tiadaghton State Forest. Weather conditions permitting, the bridge could be completed by late summer or early fall.

The span would replace former crossings in that area that either were washed out by Slate Run flood waters or dismantled, and offer year-round, safe passage across the Pine Creek tributary. The new bridge will be built using earthen abutments that supported the former Slate Run railroad trestle, dismantled in the early 1900s.

Designed to safeguard Black Forest Trail hikers while enhancing their experience on the 42-mile trail, the new cable suspension bridge would offer 3-feet-wide fiberglass decking, hand rails with mesh fencing, and a panoramic view of Slate Run.

Welcome from montgomery county. If you're looking for somthing fun to do you should look into attending the Spring MAHHA in pine grove furnace. Its a nice park and im sure it will be a great time. Ive done almost all of the AT thru PA and im sorry to say but the part that is nearest us is probably the worst in the state. Its really rocky.
