    cinch-buckle

How big is the cinch-buckle across? Want snake skin to slide over it.

    Thanks, Will

My curiosity is killing my. Why put snake skins on a hammock?

I don't have a solid measurement on the buckles but they are smaller than the gathered end is.

The biggest problem with the blackbirds isn't the cinch buckles, its the knot of the gathered end. You will potentially have some difficulty getting the skins over the end of the hammock itself as they become narrow.

    Re: cinch-buckle

I have snake skins on my 90"x11' DL tablecloth hammock because it is so big and long and I am not big and I'm short making it hard to keep it off the ground when stringing it up. The snake skins make it much easier to manage. Also, because the hammock is somewhat bulky in a stuff sack, the skins allow me to pack it in my backpack in nooks and crannies. I added two buttons to keep the skins together in the middle because my hammock kept trying to shed its skin.

I used to have skins on my tarp and, in place of a stuff or Bishop sack, skins on my HH Explorer UL hammock and HHSS undercover. I stopped going that route a while back, leaning more towards just stuffin the entire system, top quilt included, either into my pack or into a large stuff sack. Tarp still in skins. But that dual skin system was really excellent over all. I just had to remove my HH pad ( and of course TQ ) and stuff it in a separate dry sack. Then the hammock and UC went into skins with amazing speed, tarp into another set of skins. Then either stuff inside or strap to outside of pack. It made for a very fast camp set up and break down!

I'm still not positive that was not the best over all system I've used. I may go back to it some day.
