Hello everyone! I have been a long-time viewer of this forum and thought I would finally introduce myself. I chose the name, 'North45' for a couple of reasons. I live "up north" by most standards and I am 45 years old. I also happen to live on the 45th Parallel so I will rely more on that fact than my age after this year when people ask why North45.
I live in Traverse City, Michigan and take full advantage of the four seasons and beautiful terrain that this part of the world offers. Whether it is skiing, kayaking, hiking or just visiting the wineries, I am always outside no matter the weather.
My hammock camping excursions have been fairly limited to this point but that all changes in a few weeks! I am upgrading my hammock to the Blackbird (currently have an ENO Doublenest) and just ordered a beautiful tarp and cozy quilts from drool-worthy vendors that frequent this site.
I have a couple of hiking/camping goals this summer that include:
- 100 Mile Challenge of the North Country Trail section that runs through this area - I hope to accomplish this in 6 days.
- Sleeping Bear Dunes Trekker Challenge - hike all of the trails associated with this national lakeshore - mostly day hikes but around 100 miles total.
- North Manitou and South Manitou Islands (open water crossing in kayak and camping)
I have been inspired by the likes of Shug, Fronkey, Wooden Arrows and Stick on YouTube and am really enjoying the videos from 5x6outdoors. While not everyone listed is a hammock camper, their videos make me want to get outside.
So, in an effort to stop rambling, I will sign off. Looking forward to "meeting" everyone in this forum.
