    Unofficial MI "Spring" Hike & Hang NCT/MRT - 3/8/13 to 3/10/13

Unofficial MI "Spring" Hike & Hang NCT/MRT

The North Country Trail and Manistee River Trail make a 23mile loop in the Manistee National Forest... We started with 7... ended with 6.

Friday - Upper River Trail Head to Eddington Creek (NCT) - 9 Miles

Saturday - Eddington Creek to Backcountry outlaw what-have-yous (MRT) - 11 Miles

Sunday - Back to the cars - 3 Miles

Weather on Friday was great, sunshine and not a cloud in the sky! But the hiking was hard. Up hill, with spots of deep untraveled on snow. This is where my boots got soaked...

Saturday woke up for the sunrise - boots were blocks of ice. Hiked all day, better trail conditions, but more miles. (with wet boots. lol) it was cloudy and overcast, but not cold.

Sunday, rain, just a quick pack and scoot. I slid down a 30foot ice ridge! ha

Overall, great company trumps wet cold feet.

Here are a few of my pics, I made my FB album public.

I decided to bring my puppy along for her first trip too. Her name is Quincy and she is a 6 month old Australian Shepherd. She was curious thus kind of annoying (and i appreciate everyone being tolerant of that!), but stayed close and slept in the hammock with me. She loved it in there, and kept me toasty warm!

Just making the thread, I'm sure others will post their pics and or video when they get around to it.

Nice pics... Looked like a great time.. Cool dog..
We would be one step closer to world peace, if everyone slept in a hammock..

Nice pictures. Never thought there would still be so much snow up there. Looking forward to someday finding the stealth spot....I have an idea though .
The puppy is awesome! Looks like you've got a friend for life.

I don't think that any of us were expecting that much snow!

It was no big deal. Several lessons learned! Always bring extra shoes or boots for camp!

Thanks for the comments on the pup, i can't take her anywhere without people gawking over how pretty she is. Dont let the face fool you, she's a bit of a spaz!

Its a river..but yep it is cool.

Boudah, did Quincy mention anything about cold feet? She's looking good. I wonder where she gets the spazzies from..

Sorry I missed this trip, 'til I read about the frozen shoes.

Not even after she fell in the river, which was hilarious.

She got too close to the edge and the snow gave loose, and she plopped right into about 5 feet of water. Luckily it wasn't one of the 200 foot drops... her backpack was off too.

Thanks for the report. Love that dog! I recently got an Aussie who is about 4 months old now. Really looking forward to taking him backpacking.
