    memory foam?

Has anybody used memory foam pads in cold weather?I have an old Columbia pad I used on a cot.It doesn't have an r value but I think it should work well.It is very comfortable in my dl tablecloth I am using it in the house for now.At 2.88 lbs. it is to heavy for hiking but will work well canoe camping my main method.

    memory foam?

I have a memory foam bed that is warm and comfortable, but I'm not sure I would want to lug memory foam even to the car it's so heavy. I have no idea what would happen if it git wet, but I suspect it would take a crane to lift it.

I'm sure it will keep you warm. But it sure is heavy, expensive, porous and hydrophillic. Closed Cell Foam, or CCF is inexpensive, light, waterproof, and just as warm.

Trooper, thanks for the input.I was thinking of using it on a car camping trip, with my PLUQ in April trout season in the Pa. mts. can get cold.I already have it,weight is not an issue,so keeping it dry is all I need to worry about.I guess its time to look at an undercover. Thanks again.

If it works for you, and you don't care about weight, then carry on!

I have used a twin sized 2" topper as a ground pad before, I had it on a blue tarp and it worked awesome. It is flippin heavy though. If you can keep it dry it would be good on the ground or in a hammock. Not for backpacking but canoe/car.

I used a section of 3" memory foam in my daughters DL tablecloth room hammock, and she loves it.

In my limited testing (she keeps it occupied) I found it extremely comfortable and warm, however, it is very heavy and somewhat difficult to wrestle into position. It would also be very bulky to transport without being vacuum sealed. For car or canoe camping I prefer a nice synthetic underquilt. For backpacking I rely on a down UQ or CCF pad.

The fishing trip isn't untill Apr. 13.I should get to test it at home before then.Hopefully it works as I don't want to buy an expensive piece of gear that will only be used a couple of times a year. This is a camping pad not a mattress topper it rolls up and fits in a stuff sack 6"x24".Way to big and heavy for backpacking but it tucks in a corner of my canoe easily. Thanks guys the only way to know if its warm enough for me is to try it ahead of time.I'll let you know when I do it.I have had 50 at night and 70 during the day and 20 at night with snow during the day in the past so I need to be ready for anything.
