My last trip to the ground involved waking up in a group tent with all our stuff floating around us. I was on an air mattress that turned into a mini raft, but still, not fun. Then there was the time when, somehow, like a doof I forgot my sleeping pad. We figured, it's just sand, throw down extra blankets, it'll be fine....

    Never again.

This is exactly the reason I became interested in the notion of a hammock. Long 3 days of serious rain on my last canoe trip last year and I was cold, wet, and sore the whole time! My old Coleman 4 man dome has put in it's time for the last 12 years... I think I'll let it retire

Alas the hammock has forever locked me to the lands bellow the tree line. Here that is around 1300 feet. On the up note....I can leave the bulk of my kit under the trees, and just bring a small day pack for forays into the lands of Trolls :-)

Wow fish, that's quite a good journey for a Coleman. I have a 3 man, but I bought it for shade at the beaches here and so I could convince my wife to go camping with me...

My forum name is Fish<><; I'm in the navy; and I hate sleeping on the ground. If I didn't need ground to walk on or measure resistance to, I think I could happily give it up.
