Hi there. I am thinking about ordering a custom-made hammock from a company that makes them "made-to-order". The problem is that the two trees in my back yard are apx. 14' apart, and the hammock, from end-to-end is only 11.5'.
My question is this: are there any "extensions" out there that I can somehow attach to my hammock that would allow it to hang between my two trees? Any info would be much appreciated. Thanks.

Do NOT use ropes on the trees. Depending on who is making the hammock, they should be able to supply you with what you need, especially if it's one of the cottage vendors on here.
There are several different methods to use. I use tree straps and whoopie slings. You can also just use a couple of long pieces of strap to go around the tree and directly to the hammock..
As suggested, check out Shugs videos. That's where I learned about the straps and whoopies.
If we know who is making the hammock for you, it would help in suggesting which way for you to go.......RR

Hammock "extensions" are actually hammock suspension used to attach hammocks to trees of varying distances. Check out all the info in the Suspension Forum.

Yeap, rope directly on the trees may damage the trees, hence using straps will spread out the load on a wider area on the tree's bark. If you want to use ropes on your hammock instead of straps, go with trees traps (or also called tree huggers) on the trees and attach your rope to them.
I'm using a neat 'All in One' system by Stu at whoopieslings.com, the whoopieslings are easy to adjust for length, lighter and take up less storage room than using just straps without rope.
