    SF vs Cuban coverage

I own a SF and love it, but in my quest to go lighter, I am thinking about going to a cuban tarp but most of them seem to be only 8.5 wide. The SF is 11x10 and the cuban are 10.8x8.5. Wondering about coverage, especially if I drop the cuban all the way to the ground. Will my butt be on the ground, or close to it to get that kind of coverage?
    I'm using a BB hammock.
For those who have changed up, what has been your experience?

    thanks

I started out with the HG 4-season CF tarp, and found the side coverage a bit skimpy. I have since upgraded to the HG Winter Palace which is more to my likiing - it's a true 4S tarp.

The answer is yes, if you're using a stock HG 4S with a Blackbird and want to get a tight to the ground pitch you have to fiddle to get it right and your butt will be right down almost on the ground. But it can be done if you're patient.

Joe of Zpack and Hammock Gear, make their cuben tarps to use 2 pieces of cuben material seamed at the Ridge Line of the tarp as cuben material all comes in 54" wide rolls. Hence the increase in pricing for the HG Winter Cuben tarp which is wider down the sides than their other cuben tarp offerings. Takes alot more work, cutting splicing of material together to make the sides wider,,and there is some loss of material as well. I suppose that material can be also used in making bags, and other cuben items as well. Someday we might see cuben material come in wider rolls so we can cut costs abit in the making of the tarps. Hope this helps those that didn't know the size cuben comes in for the cottage makers to use in making us tarps.

And yes,,my butt is almost on the ground or I am kissing the cuben to get it down as low as possible with stock cuben tarps I have.

Last yr,,when I got my 2 cuben tarps,,I couldn't get Joe of Zpacks or HG to make me a cuben winter pallace type tarp for the extra coverage. Now Adam is back to making them,,and I still want at least one..so might just get the urge sometime to get one finally.

If you think your coverage is going to be short on the sides,,you can always use a UQP on your hammock to stop the spray of rain as a backup. they only weigh 5-6 ozs and do the trick.

I use both the Sf and Adams 4s cuben, for winter I like the size of the SF as it offers some living space too, somewhere to store your pack and even sit about if it's raining. The 4s will always keep me dry and out of the wind but it's not a tarp to take to the ground I don't think.
