    My first setup

    Got my tarp today!

And that completes my setup! Any suggestions before I hit the trail with this for the first time.
The hammock is a Grand Trunk SBP with an internal ridge line I did for the bug net and the tarp is a Gide gear 8.5X8.5

Seam seal the heck out of the guide gear tarp... and take some seam sealer with you maybe.

Yeah I have heard that I know you get what you pay for and I will seal it but honestly so far it seems lake a really great tarp it's not all that cheaply made, or so it seems I and going to test it some first.

I have the exact same setup and the center seam on the tarp is most important especially where the center tie out is that is the only place where my leaked in several hours of heavy rain. I also had someone with a sewing machine add "button holes " at either side of the bug net close to the gathered end and ran my structural ridge line right through got a nice tight fit on my amsteel so there is no chance of bugs getting in andthen you don't need a seperate line to hold up the bug net.
hammock so far for me has proven pretty bullet proof at my heaviest I weighed 285lbs no problems. if I had to make one suggetion practice actually finding your sleeping position before going into the woods or at least set up way early and figure it out before dark. Leave some sag in the hammock about 23 degrees and sleep like this / not like this -- or in the morning your back will look like this V.
All the best to you! wlcome to the club!

I have a 11ft one I used all last summer and it worked just fine but you def need to seal the seams. It still leaked some after a mega dose of sealer but it was totally saturated at that point from a down pour. Hold it up to some light and inspect the seams while slightly stretching it... if you can see light peaking through then you will have leaks.

ALSO check the entire tarp over ...the first one i got in had a snag in the fabric and was completely ruined...the second is still going strong and will be used as a camp kitchen tarp or a loaner.

    Congrats!
Suggest you try two or three 'backyard' or easy bailout locations before hiking far down the trail for an overnight.

    My first setup

On the quilts yes I have a pad(which I may not even use) and top quilt, I plan to make an UQ for this winter but for the summer I'm good on that. On the sleeping position I already slept in it and got all that figured out!
