storing top quilt

I'm about to acquire my first top quilt and want to quiz you guys/gals about storing it. I understand that it's not good to leave it in the stuff bag in the closet. I also understand that it should be stored laid out flat or hung vertically. Not having the space to lay it our flat I'm left with hanging it. Can it be hug over something like the hanging rod in a closet much like I hang my trousers on a clothes hanger, or must it be hung at full length?

I hang all my stuff vertically from one end. I took my cue from outdoor stores, as they all seem to hang stuff that way. Of course, my wife hates it. Between sleeping bags and underquilts their is no space left for old prom dresses from the 80s.

I hang ours from the ceiling in the gear room.

A lot of company give you a large bag to store it in as well as a smaller bag to pack it in... I took the nod from them and keep mine in a large pillow case on top shelf of my gear shelf...

You can hang it, store it in an over sized stuff sack that does not compress it or as I do laying on top of a spare bed.

+1... vertical hanging takes more space than practical, and the large storage bag keeps it dust free.

I also like the big bags for storage. Makes for a great practice project on the old thread injector as well. Just take an old sheet and stitch up a couple bags. I usually keep the stuff sack/compression sack that goes with each piece in its storage bag for easy pack & go.

I use the Kifaru's Stow-Aways, tough and airy. The large size hold both TQ/UQ, store vertically in the garage.

I use the supplied oversize stuff sacks and large plastic storage containers to keep them safe from pests, spills, or the like.

I think its largely a myth about keeping down compressed. It is compressed when stored by the supplier and the manufacturer, otherwise it would take up outrageous amounts of space. Certainly don't store it wet that would be a breeding ground for all manor of micro organisms.

I have a friend who simply leaves his bag in the stuff sack it came in (15years ago) when he plans to use it he takea it out tosses it in the dryer for 5min and packs it away. He's never had a problem with it.
