I know to not store any down bags/quilts in a compressed bag.... and conventional wisdom from most is that optimum storage is to hang the down quilts vertically for storage. However, I know many are storing their down quilts in a large uncompressed "laundry" type bag.

My question: Does anyone have tangible evidence that storage in an uncompressed bag over a long period of time has actually compromised the loft of the quilt, or otherwise damaged it, relative to vertical hanging storage of the quilt?

Now that I've started investing in some quality down quilts, I need to determine whether to rig up a vertical storage system in my gear closet, or if I can just store them in the uncompressed bag. Thanks for any input.
