Friends on HF........

HF membership is like any hobby of mine... I get interested, I learn as much as I can, I try to help those that follow with what I've learned... Then I "do" for a while, and eventually, once I'm good at it, that hobby fades away somewhat as the "learning" is what I'm passionate about.

Excellent, I often crash at friends houses while on vacation... The family is hopping in the RV.. we'll be there in a week or two! I'll need to teach my wife and kids what Livermush is!

*shrug* I just take a friend request as a compliment. That is what I intend when I issue one.

Some are still quietly watching.

I've got a couple of old friends that I met early in my hammocking career here on HF. We stay in contact but they never seem to login. Then one of them will start talking about an active thread, but their account still shows no activity. They just aren't logging in, but are still reading.

I do think that the plethora of vendors keeps some of the really creative and gifted minds among us from posting their ideas. That isn't to say we don't still have some brilliant ideas floated around here, just that they don't come on a weekly basis anymore. I suspect there is still a very healthy amount of PMs between individuals about new ideas and concepts. The innovators have just gone underground...well, the ones that weren't abducted by aliens anyway.

I know I am not in the Shug "Friends" circle, but the above explains me, perfectly... I will check on a regular basis, but I am only active every once in a while. This place is a great resource, I just do not have the extra time to be involved in to many threads. But, I do appreciate all of the postings, trip reports, ideas, suggestions, etc that come from here.

But i do agree with Cannibal there are many of us they don't post much or at all anymore but we still use PM but your right lots of us don't post ideas anymore or input on development like the use to
for a while there i was only using HF for PM's to keep in contact with the members that i don't have on facebook ...

I know I have not posted much on here lately, but have been real busy at work as well as learning more about my other hobby I picked up last year, fly fishing, hopefully will be posting more soon as I go about hammocking and fly fishing together.

Well, I don't know about everyone else but i lurk on here often and then sometimes i might go a week or two without logging on at all. I don't comment much on topics it's not that i am unfriendly, i just don't feel knowledgeable enough about hammocking as im fairly new to the sport. "is this a sport" if not i think it should be an Olympic sport definalty. I mean if Synchronized Swimming can be a sport surely hammock camping can be right? but i digress ... anyway I would love to have friends on here and meet up for group hangs. Shug i don't know you but i feel like i do from watching your videos .keep um coming . maybe i haven;t looked good enough but i don't remember seeing a yearly group hang for hammock forum members. if not then we should have one yearly.


Update i just looked again and saw nothing on a search for a yearly group hang: I was looking specifically for a yearly hang that moves around from year to year and that is roughly the same time every year

I, like many on here, am mostly a lurker. I feel like type isn't the best communication tool. I suppose I'm worried that I might accidentally offend, don't have anything interesting to say, say something stupid, or say something that has already been beaten/discussed to death. Not that the people I have "spoken" with here aren't super friendly. They are.
I'm also a fairly quiet person in general. I like to learn from others without interfering. Often times, if I wait. someone will ask the same question I have, or have the same concern as I, and there is no need to be redundant. But yeah, I'm here, and don't plan on going anywhere for a long long time.
