    My 1st Homemade Hammock

So I made myself an HH-style hammock with ring buckle supports

Yes, I realize the background is ugly, but that is the best I could find in the middle of the city, with no cement to break the fall.
The hammock is made out of what I believe to be 1.9oz uncoated Ripston Nylon. The material is 96"x60". I definitely think it is too wide, but this is just my prototype. The real one will be a 1.1oz DWR.

You know I guess HH-Style is misleading since it doesn't look it, but it is folded like one. Also, I used zip-ties for the whipping. I did notice that the Spectra tried to slip past the zip-tie. Hmmm, kind of scary.

The support cord will tend to try and slip past the zip-tie, but don't worry about it. As long as you hem the end of the hammock itself, it won't matter. The bulk of the hem is really what's keeping the support on anyway.

So what do you think I should do? Should I pull in the edges or should I go to 54" wide?

Great first hammock! you should have seen mine

That one can be your hunting season hammock

I definitely want to try the ring buckle suspension.
I'd keep the 60" width. It seems superflous and floppy when you are lying down the center like in the photo but the extra width allows for a nice comfy (and flat) diagonal. At least it does in mine. I actually rewhipped and made my sides a little floppier on my second hammock so they weren't pressing on my head so much.

I did the HH roll and so it is very flat without laying diagonally. I may leave it 60", but I am really tempted to make the final a 54".

Yeah, but the next one will cost 4x as much.

My current version is ~50", but I've also made a 60" one. My take is that, with winter insulation, I tend to keep my body tucked in anyway (to stay warmer) and don't need the extra width. Even the 50" is wider than I really need. For summer you want to spread out to cool off, and get more comfortable in the process. I think I'll keep using the narrow one when it's cold and switch to the wide one for summer. I also like the weight reduction of the narrow one when I'm carrying a bunch of insulation in the winter, whereas the extra hammock weight won't bother me as much without having to carry quilts.
