    Where to put my pack

Ive been hanging on camping trips for a couple of years now. I've always wondered where would agood place be for my pack while I'm in my WBBB. I don't like leaving it on the ground under the hammock, so I usually hang it on a near by tree. Any other suggestions for keeping the pack easily acessible and dry?

I know of a few guys that have a "gear" hammock that they hang under their hammock.

I usually do what you do...tie it to a tree.

    Where to put my pack

I hang mine on the foot end of my hammock suspension and then just buckle the hip belt around the foot of the hammock.

Since I want my head end to be lower than my foot end, I hang my water bladder carrier (a standard Camelbak pack that gets clipped to my main pack) at the head end and my (now empty) pack at the foot end. This makes for good weight distribution and helps block incoming rain from those positions (since I use such a small tarp, this is a plus).

I used to place it on my poncho, underneath my hammock. But then I started using my poncho as part of my weather protection system, so...

A quick Google search will reveal as many answers to this as there are folks who post on the forum; this is a topic that tends to come up every month or two. Just in case you want more opinions than you might get in this particular thread.

    Hope it helps!

I lay it down underneath on a piece of plastic and some nights put it into the bag liner to protect it.

Re: Where to put my pack

Hang it on a tree 90% of the time, if it looks like rain it goes in a big trash bag that's my welcome home mat or clipped to the end of the hammock...

I use a nacrabiner and hang it from the loop in my tree strap. It acts as the first drip point and distract any would-be crawly things from potentially as far down the tree strap (had an issue with curious ants once....don't ask).

I consider the space under my tarp to be my floor. I typically take something to put the pack on, though if I find a good spot to hang it from a tree, I'll do that, too.

Since I'm still waiting (anxiously) for my first hammock, I can't offer much insight..

But couldn't you put your pack under your legs (assuming it's mostly empty & not too bulky) to help insulate your legs?

I took about 15' of paracord, folded it in half, then tied overhand knots every 1'. Clip a small biner on the end, if you'd like.

I take that "rat tail" and wrap it around one of the trees I'm hanging from, and then clip things into it along its length. I usually put my pack near the bottom, since it's relatively heavy--I stick a toggle through the haul loop, then wedge that against one of the rat tail knots. But I also clip in my hat, my light, my Sawyer Squeeze, hanging and ready to dispense water...just about anything I feel like I'll want quick access to hangs on it.

EDIT: That also keeps things off the ground, out of the mud or dirt. If it rains, I put my pack cover back over my pack and it's protected from the rain too.

EDIT 2: I had forgotten that I made a post on this: https://www.hammockforums.net/forum/...ad.php?t=44987
