the 12' tarp will be long enough to cover the ends of your hammock when set up as an a-frame, which will also allow you to close the ends if it's windy.
It also means that in a heavy rain, you'll stay dry.
the 9'6" tarp will be shorter than your trek light double -- unless you set it up as a diamond.

This is 8'x10' harbour freight tarp. No leaky seams, get a roll of tarp tape or duct tape to tape holes and add vents and other accesories.
I always pitch a tarp the same way. Lay it out flat, move each corner in and nail it. The gromets on these tarps are not much good so I use tarp tape and glue gun to make them stronger. After I took this picture I added a 3" sod cloth with vapour barrier plastic all the way around (you guys in the states call it vis queen)

Avoid using the grommets if possible. They're probably gonna rip.
How do you avoid using the grommets? I thought about putting some duct tape around them to help strengthen them up a little

reinforcing is a good plan - try either heavy duty duck tape, gorilla tape, or sail patch tape -- they;'re all stronger than standard duct tape and have better glue, so are more likely to last.

You can also use this little trick to make pull outs on your tarp without having to mod anything.
I use 7" ring nails for pegs so I cannot use the big hole of a regular grommet. I have to customize and reinforce them.
To reinforce the grommets I use tape long enough to cover the grommet on both sides.
I put the tape on one side then fill the grommet with glue gun plastic before I put the tape on the other side. I then melt a hole for my nail. If I want a loop instead of a hole I just use a piece of cord and a little cross stick. If one were to always want loops a bit of glue from the gun would keep then in place.
I like the rock idea. I can see it being very useful to add side pull outs where there are no grommets especially in summer for more ventilation.
