    Guys....I'm an idiot

So, I think I've surpassed the amateur hammocking phase and progressed into intermediate or even lightly seasoned, or so I thought. I went camping last night with my uncle and cousin and we were setting up our hammocks / tents fairly close to dark so we were a little rushed in getting everything ready to go before it got completely dark. All was going fairly well, about 11:00 p.m we were getting ready to hit the hay, got my pad adjusted, hopped in, slithered into my sleeping bag, and had to remove the pad in the middle of the night because I was sweating. Other than removing the pad, I slept great. 7:00 a.m. wakes me up as my hammock is vibrating ridiculously and then all of the sudden, BAM, I hit the ground. Turns out the tree I tied my hammock to was dead and it uprooted. I'm just glad it 1.) Was a small tree 2.) Got caught on another tree and didn't fall on me and 3.) held until 7 a.m. so that I was well rested.

I'll certainly be farrrrrrr more careful from now on. haha

One of the riskiest parts of what we do is that we do it under trees. I am glad all is well. Bet you take more time with selection next time.

Keep at it. I spend a lot of time looking up as well as at the distance between trees.

At the Fall MAHHA, my 2 boys and I set up in the dark as well. Put the three hammocks up in a triangle of trees. In the morning, noticed one of the tree was dead. it shook easily but held. Thankfully. Luckily, I was between the other two trees. I outweigh both my kids combined.

Welcome to the club! Glad you are OK. I had a tree come down too. Mine was alive, but had root rot and pulled out of the ground.
Keep movin', keep believing and enjoy the journey!

I was thinking the same thing. Even in daylight it can be hard to tell what's what when everything is dormant. Glad to hear you survived!
