depends on the rating of your bedding, how warm/cold you normally sleep, and what layers you sleep in.

Hard to say. 5/8 thick? Maybe stack two pads.

I would be fine into at least the low teens with that setup -- but I sleep warm - so long as I was under a tarp to keep the wind off.

    under pad

With reference only to UNDER insulation, 5/8" would be good to below 0 for me.
Since I retired, some times I stay awake all day, some times all night.

Awesome, looks like I should have no issues getting out next weekend if I can find the time.

I could certainly do below 32F with that set up since I sleep warm but I would still try it in my own back yard first. For me it takes a bunch of fiddling around before I get everything just right.

I'll just be making a trip out to a spot 15 miles away, probably set up and see if we can't hike around and find some dropped antlers :-)

Well in that case, worst case scenario is that you get to cold and have to drive back home and pick up some stuff. However, with a 0 degree bag I wouldn't be worried at all. Just make sure you bring a couple other layers and if you need them, put them on.
