When I set up camp, I just try to strategically set it up where my gear box is close at hand. Of course sometimes the forest doesn't cooperate, but most times it does.

Putting the Gear Box at the foot end of the tarp was more necessity than it was a conscious effort. I didn't have my poncho, so I used what I had. If I get out sometime this week, I will get a couple pics and post them here.

A Gear Box is a silnylon gear hammock made on the model of the Molly Mac Gear Hammock Sock with SEEP, so that it has a top that drapes over it to keep rain and snow out. It is made with plenty of baggy-ness so that it will hold an entire backpack and it's contents, even with gear exploded.

Is this this similar to what I've seen that hangs under hammocks to store gear?
Yes, and yes. You could let the gear hammock drag on the ground without ill effect because it's silnylon.
Could be... but this is meant to hang independently, or under the hammock, or anywhere you want. If it's snowing, I like to put it outside the tarp.
