If you are using an underquilt or pad, then that already gives you a protective layer. I have used my underquilt on my HH and nothing's gotten past that yet.
A double layer with a thin pad would work in warm climates.

For your health's sake, I think you need to get over it. Politically, I'm somewhere pretty far to the left of Hugo Chavez. I despise all pesticides and herbicides, since most were developed during the military's fascination with chemical warfare around WWII.
It took a long time for me to come to terms with using permethrin. After tons of research, I determined it's probably the least toxic pesticide on the market. There is no way to protect yourself against ticks, mosquitoes and other blood-sucking parasites by fabric alone. If you value your health, you will do a little more research.
I consider permethrin safer than DEET. I had a DEET reaction once that was truly horrific (it was like eating the brown acid at a Dead concert). I still use DEET, but sparingly. I've never had a permethrin reaction.
be very careful with these products
There was an Old Man with a owl,
Who continued to bother and howl;
He sat on a rail, And imbibed bitter ale,
Which refreshed that Old Man and his owl.WOO
Like I stated before Wise Old Owl, I will not consider any chemical to take care of any mosquitoes. I doesnt matter how much research can be done or not.
I am curious as to the thickness of the fabrics (2.7oz,1.0oz) can they deter any bites? Good point on the alignment of two fabrics!
Luck is the meeting of Destiny and Hard Work.......................................
I have ordered a single layer 2.7.. but am rethinking about adding another layer inside it for other reasons, like maintaining the options to use a pad if I wanted... but if it protects more against the biters.. hey all the more of a bonus.
I keep thinking I will never use a pad though.. If I needed something I could always put my SS cover under me... I love that MARPAT.. so I'll probably just leave it be.

You could go the net sock route then you can get the lightest single you want. I've never owned an integrated bug net hammock, always had the socks. Also if you have an UQ or a pad in your hammock the skeeter's won't bite thru that.
Good luck,

If you go with 2.7 and 1.1 you will not get bit through the bottom. Just the fact it is a double layer will stop them. You will be fine, happy hangin'

I never had problems with my DL before I treated it with permethrin but did so anyway. The health risks of west nile or lyme's far outweigh the risks of a chemical produced by a plant and synthesized in a lab. That being said, for future reference it would not be the weight of the fabric per se or the denier of the thread but instead the thread per inch count that would ceate a tighter weave and thus offer more protection for a single layer hammock; if any.
