    Urgent Help Needed!

    Hello gravitational resistance movement.

I need some urgent help. I'm stuck in analysis paralysis at the moment

I'm venturing into your beloved hammock territory and I would really appreciate some sound advice because I'm about to derail with stress.

I'm of the ideology that ultralight is the way to go.

I would like an ultralight hammock shelter that is either custom or shop bought.

I have had a look at the offerings from hennesey and clarke but some people say that they are gateway setups. Namely a bridging solution to a propper setup.

Could someone please advise me on how to go ultralight. I have an idea that its something like this:

Weight Weenie micro with some sort of no-um see netting and rain enclosure with say a massive cuben tarp from zpacks or the other cottagers. Something about amsteel and titanium dutch hooks too.

Could someone please explain to me how to get a light weight version of a hammock shelter. I'm buying from scratch which is a massive advantage and thats where you guys come in. Much appreicated.

    Marc.

Look at dream hammocks Darian UL, I think that is the lightest hammock with bug net. It also comes with woopie slings and dutchware (clips etc) out of the box. Down side is that the light hamock cant support heavy people so make sure you are in the weight limit.

Check out the insulation sections of the forum for info about quilts.

As for tarps, hammock gear has cuban fibre tarps specificly for camping, a full cut with weather doors and a smaller hex cut. Compare them to ztarpa before you buy.

If you arent in bug country other people can make suggestions about a travler hammock without bugnet.

Many people have clarks and hennessys, there is nothing wring with them, but like any setup folks like to tweak them and explore options. There is a lot of prsonal prefrence.

    Urgent Help Request

What are your plans for hammock camping? Long trails, car nearby? etc.
Ultralite often means having without some creature comforts. Look for multi-use. Will you spend most time hiking, or most time in camp mode?

I love my WBBB with WB tarp, underquilt and topquilt, Bear Burrito Burrow and underquilt protector. Not ultralight, but very COMFORTABLE resting and sleeping make the weight acceptable for my usage.

    Marc,

I assume money (like syntax) is no object. Mix and match works for hammocks just as well as metaphors. More research is in order, though you seem to have made a good start at identifying appropriate parts of your ultimate setup. I suggest looking up Sgt. Rock.

2 quibbles: A cuben tarp is a good choice, but forget "massive". Also, if you get it all right the first time, what will you do next?

Some sage (possibly Fourdog) said, "The more you know, the less you take." Stock up.

    Good luck!

With respect to you desire for ultra light gear, Clark is not in that group. Not Clark bashing, I own and use regularly a NX 250 and love it, but light weight it isn't.
For what you are looking for Bias and Warbonnet would also be good options, and +1 on the Hammock Gear cuben fiber tarps. Hope you find what makes you happy, but reality says you will likely make some changes some where with what you start out with, just because you continue to find new things.

I'll be doing several month tours all over. Main priority is a great nights sleep followed by weight. Hope this helps.

All of the hammock manufacturers are going to work well for you I'm sure. I don't think I saw anywhere a mention of your height and weight. That will help determine the proper hammock for you. Also, I've had my eye on cuben tarps for a bit now, but it seems that they break a lot more regularly than a sil tarp. The tadpole from wilderness logics is a great great tarp and it is affordable and relatively lightweight!

I'm five 10 hovering around 80 kilos. This will probably go down to around 75 when after a few months of cycling.

on my AT hike last year

I used a HH Ultralight with whoopies and Dutch Hooks.

Can't get much lighter than that other than a new Darien UL.

If you are concerned about being a gram weenie, then cuben in the way
to go. Use mesh snake skins.
    I always recommend doors.
Wind and rain are just too unpredictable.
