    No trees pictures

A friend is thinking about hammocking but ...

Where he camps usually does not have trees (think southwest).

I know that I've seen pix on this forum of folk hanging from rocks, but the only thing I've found was Cannibal's rig on a car in Kys... (Russia).

Anybody have pictures of hanging without a tree?

I don't have any photos, but I think to hang from rocks would just take a good length of nylon webbing to wrap around the rock at least once if not more. Then, maybe have an additional piece of webbing to create a tale to attach the suspension to. Here's a random google search photo http://www.flickr.com/photos/jonatha...ar/4065230448/

A number of options exist and have been posted elsewhere on the forum. Most are homemade portable stands. Here are a few forums threads on similar ideas. Also do a search for portable stands.

    No Trees:

    https://www.hammockforums.net/forum/...ad.php?t=33651

    One tree hammock stand:

    https://www.hammockforums.net/forum/...ad.php?t=31885
    https://www.hammockforums.net/forum/...ad.php?t=33577

First image shows a $60 hammock stand from Agri-Supply -- it works well and is portable.

Second image shows use of two pipes and straps for a stand. Also very portable.

While two trees may not be an option, often one can fine a pole of some sort to use as one end of a hang. The next set of images shows various options for a one-tree/pole stand: pipe, bipod, and bicycle serving as the second support.

That is my biggest gripe about living in West Texas - no trees. And my biggest reason for moving some place where there are trees.
